Cavo Ventus Santorini | The Wind-Swept Celebration of Dennis and Dave
Cavo Ventus is a luxury villa perched on the edge of the caldera in Akrotiri. It is a masterpiece of discreet architecture, nearly invisible from a distance, with levels that reveal themselves only from the sea. The only landmark that gives it away is the 200-year-old stone windmill standing proudly at the top level—a sight you simply cannot forget once you’ve seen it.
Embracing the Aegean Elements
Dennis and Dave’s wedding was one I had been looking forward to since the moment they booked. Their original plan was cinematic: a grand entrance by helicopter. However, that day we all learned exactly why the locals chose to build a windmill on that specific cliffside. The Aegean wind was so powerful that the helicopter couldn't land, and even an outdoor dinner became impossible.
After the initial shock of the weather, the couple showed incredible resilience. We held the ceremony at Cavo Ventus as planned, but moved the reception to Theros Wave Bar, which fortunately was available to host us for the night.
Emotion Over Logistics
Once the ceremony began, the logistics faded into the background. The day became entirely about the "emotional truth" of their journey. As a discrete observer, I focused on the symbolism and the raw joy of their entrance. It was a reminder that while we plan for perfection, the most memorable milestones are often the ones where we embrace the unexpected.
The transition to the rugged cliffs of Vlychada for the reception allowed us to capture a different side of the island—one that felt intimate and adventurous. Working alongside cinematographer Nikos Dimou and the team at Marvellous Weddings, we documented a story that was full of heart and unscripted beauty.
