Sifnos has always been described as an island of poetry, the birthplace of Ioannis Gryparis and a muse for artists for centuries. While I had seen this Cycladic gem from afar many times, Amy and Matt’s wedding was my first opportunity to document a story there. It didn't take long to see why they chose it; the whitewashed villages and secluded beaches offer a rare kind of tranquility that feels untouched by the typical tourist rush.

A Seaside Ceremony at Lazarou Beach

The couple chose Lazarou Beach, near Platis Gialos, for their celebration. The venue is built amphitheatrically, offering jaw-dropping views of the Aegean. The ceremony took place right at the water's edge, under a simple arch adorned with white linen that danced in the coastal breeze.

As a discrete observer, I loved the "bucolic" spirit of this day. It wasn't just a formal event; it was a light-hearted celebration filled with personality. From men dressed in togas sporting bay leaf wreaths—accompanied by actual sheep—to a live band playing traditional music, there was a wonderful, humorous Dionysian element that kept everyone smiling.

Character Assassination and Limbo Until Dawn

The reception at Lazarou Beach was beautifully rustic, with tables overflowing with grapes and floral centerpieces. One of the highlights was the best man’s speech—a classic "character assassination" that had the entire crowd in stitches. These are the moments I live for as a photographer: the raw, unscripted reactions of a family that truly knows how to have fun.

Personal touches were everywhere, including a display of the couple's love story artfully hung on strings around the venue. Under a canopy of candles and paper lanterns, the party transformed into an epic marathon of singing, dancing, and limbo that didn't end until 6:30 AM.
