Pyrgos Melissourgou & Pyrgos Petreza | Indian Wedding in Greece: Day Two

The second day of Vaishali and Manhar’s celebration was a brilliant continuation of the energy we saw on Day One. This time, the focus shifted to a sacred Buddhist ceremony and a grand reception, transitioning from the historic grounds of Pyrgos Melissourgou to the refined elegance of Pyrgos Petreza.

Morning Preparations and Traditional Red

We began the morning capturing Vaishali’s preparations. She looked breathtaking in a traditional red Indian wedding dress, adorned with intricate stonework that caught the soft morning light perfectly. As a photographer, starting the day with these quiet, detailed portraits allows me to set the visual tone for the "emotional truth" that follows.

A Sacred Interior: The Ceremony at Pyrgos Melissourgou

While the Athenian wind moved the ceremony indoors at Pyrgos Melissourgou, the atmosphere remained serene and sacred. The space was transformed with gold Buddha statues, lotus flowers, and incense.

The calm was soon broken by the groom’s entrance—a high-energy procession led by traditional Indian drummers. Seeing the groom lifted into the air by his friends while the drums echoed through the stone walls of the Pyrgos was electric. One of my favorite "unscripted" moments was the traditional lowering of the cloth to reveal the bride to the groom—a moment of pure, raw emotion that I felt privileged to document.

Cinematic Portraits and a Western Transition

After the ceremony, we utilized the expansive, sun-drenched grounds of Pyrgos Melissourgou for a series of bridal portraits. These "in-between" moments, away from the crowd, allow the couple to truly be themselves.

As the sun began to set, we moved to Pyrgos Petreza for the reception. The couple transitioned into Western-style attire, blending modern elegance with their traditional roots. Pyrgos Petreza, with its vineyard views and stone architecture, provided the perfect "Old World" backdrop for a night of heartfelt speeches and an incredible dance party that lasted well into the morning.

Reflections on a Cultural Journey

Documenting this two-day Indian wedding in Greece was a reminder of why I love my work. It wasn't just about the beautiful venues; it was about the merging of cultures and the celebration of a very real, playful love. Whether navigating the "chaos" of the drums or the quiet of the vows, my goal remained the same: to be a discrete observer of a once-in-a-lifetime story.
