Monemvasia Wedding Photographer | The Peace & Poetry of Haneen & Alistair
Meeting your partner online is a sign of modern times, but Haneen and Alistair’s journey is anything but typical. This USA-based Palestinian and Israeli couple chose the ancient stones of Monemvasia to make their union official—a choice that felt like stepping back through the centuries to find a place of shared peace.
A Byzantine Fairytale at Lazareto Hotel
Situated off the southern coast of the Peloponnese, Monemvasia is a fortress town where medieval churches and Venetian mansions provide a gravity that few other places can match. For Haneen and Alistair, the Lazareto Hotel served as the perfect home base. This beautifully restored venue captures the "fairytale" atmosphere of the castle while offering the modern comforts needed for a high-end destination wedding.
Symbolism in the Details: Olive & Lavender
The bride was intentional with every detail, choosing lavender and olive leaves as the primary decorative elements. This choice served a double purpose: it honored the best of Greek nature while symbolizing the much-needed peace in Israel-Palestine relations.
Capturing Haneen as she walked through the narrow, stone-walled streets toward the ceremony, followed by cheering villagers and loved ones, felt like documenting a royal procession. When she joined Alistair at the altar, the high spirits and emotional weight of the moment were palpable.
Modern Celebrations: The Donut Wall & Pavlov's Lab
The transition from the historic ceremony to the celebration at Lazareto Hotel was flawlessly executed by Think Happy Events. Guests were treated to an elaborate dessert display, featuring a unique "donut wall" by Pavlov’s Lab—a sweet, modern touch against the rugged, historic walls of the hotel.
As a Monemvasia wedding photographer, I strive to capture these contrasts: the weight of the Byzantine history against the light-hearted, unscripted joy of a party that lasted well into the early hours of the morning.
