I m more than once excited starting my wedding season once again, with Eloping in Santorini ! By know I know the island very well and having met many good friends, it almost feels like a second home to me. Beautiful gentle people, so much in love. When Justin proposed to Mary Catherine on a beach in Southern California, he knew she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Yet, at that point, he could have never guessed just how breathtaking their wedding would end up being. Having seen Greece in photos, it had always been on the couple’s “Must See” travel list and so they figured there is no better way to see the country and develop a special bond with it than get married there. Forgoing a traditional ceremony, they chose to elope in the most romantic of the Aegean islands, Santorini. The couple exchanged their vows at Andronis Luxury Suites in Oia, arguably one of the most romantic spots in the world. Mary Catherine made her way from the villa down the stairs to the Likavittos’ restaurant terrace, looking exquisite in a boho lace gown with a minimal yet elegant headpiece of a white ribbon. Justin’s eyes lit up as he watched his bride approach him, accompanied by local musicians playing traditional instruments. The couple exchanged their first kiss as husband and wife in front of a background of natural wonders: the endless blue of the sea surrounded by stunning rock formations made for an awe-inspiring ceremony and reception. The couple dined at a table for two, overlooking the dramatic landscape of the volcanic caldera and whitewashed, blue-topped island houses while the sun set. While I have been to Santorini plenty of times as a wedding photographer, the island’s sunset never ceases to amaze and provided the perfect whimsical palette for this perfect day. Gently touched by the sea breeze and celebrating in a truly private and remote location, Mary Catherine and Justin felt like the whole world was at their feet, which is no surprise given Santorini emanates romance with its extreme landscape.
